Placing a Bet with a Bookmaker |

| Having
decided which horse you are going to back, look around and see which
bookie is showing the highest odds for your horse, then line up to make
your bet. Tell the bookmaker the name of horse (not the number), the race number, your stake, what type of bet and whether you want fixed price (odds) or the starting price. The bookie will then call the bet to his clerk and issue you with a ticket that has the bookmakers name and number on it. Make sure you have a pen handy so you can immediately write down the agreed odds on the back of your ticket. Some bookmakers use sound recording equipment allowing play-back of bets taken should the need arise. Hold on to you ticket, you'll need it to collect any winnings and don't throw it away if you haven't won until after the weighing in. |

find your nearest Tote counter or kiosk to place your bet. State the
racecard number of the horse ( not the name), the race number, your stake
and what type of bet you wish to make. The Tote representative will then
issue you with a ticket that lists full details of the bet. Hold on to you ticket, you'll need it to collect any winnings and don't throw it away if you haven't won until after the weighing in. You can collect your winnings from any Tote counter or kiosk. |

| To place a bet in an on course or off course
betting shop you will need to complete a betting slip. The betting slips
are usually found on the counters or in wall boxes. Fill in the slip
detailing the time, date and location of the race, the name and number of
the horse you're backing, your stake and if you want to pay tax on the
stake or your winnings. You will be given a copy of the slip for your reference and you will need this to collect any winnings. |
