The Different Types of Bets

Win Bet

You select which horse will win the race.
If your horse wins so do you, otherwise your money is lost.

e.g. £5 stake on a horse at 10/1, you collect £55 (winnings plus stake)

Place Bet

You select the finishing place of your horse.
Place betting only occurs in races with five or more runners.

You win if your horse comes in as follows:

	Number of Runners	Finishing Place
	5 to 7	1st, 2nd
	8 or more	1st, 2nd, 3rd
	16 or more	1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

Your winnings will either be a third or quarter of the fixed odds win price.

Each Way Bet

As with place betting you can only bet in races with five or more runners.
You bet your horse will win OR be placed and pay for two equal stakes. In the event of a win, you will be paid as if the two stakes were individual bets on the same horse.

Since an each way bet is effectively two bets, you pay double the unit stake i.e. a £5 each way bet would cost £10.

The odds for a place are normally one fifth of the win odds but check with the bookmaker on the day.

Dual Forecast Bet

You select the first and second horse in either order.
The bookmaker will state the price when you are ready to bet.

Accumulator or Multiple Bet

You place a bet on one race and the winnings are carried on to another race with the bet therefore accumulating.

Additional Tote Bets

Combination Forecast - Pick three or more horses. You win if two of them finish first or second (in either order).

Trio - Pick three horses to finish first, second or third in any order. Only available in races with nine runners or more.

Jackpot - Pick the first six race winners at the Jackpot meeting.

Placepot - Pick horses to be placed in each of the first six races, or if there are less than five runners pick those to win.

Quadpot - Pick a horse to be placed in each of the final four legs of the Placepot.

Multibet - Choose doubles, trebles etc.
